We recently moved into a new house that is much smaller than our other house. This house actually fits all of our needs and there is far less wasted space…we now actually “live” in every room verses having rooms/areas that we rarely used.

One of my new favorite areas is my “Mom Central” nook that I created just off from our kitchen. I put up a wipe-off calendar board, a magnetic chalk board, and two frames for my kid’s artwork.

Everyone can see what’s on the calendar for the month and we can easily erase those “change of plans” that come up too.  My favorite part of the nook are the two frames that display the constant artwork that my girls bring home or create on a weekly basis.

I went to *Hobby Lobby and bought two white 11×13 frames, (since most of their artwork is on letter size – that would allow for a black border) and took out the glass and framed black foam core board that can be purchased there as well. (*during their 40% off frame sale) To display the artwork, you can use poster putty to interchange the artwork which doesn’t tear the board and can be reused. (and of course tape always works) Another thought was to frame magnetic boards, but I thought this was a pretty simple solution and I love the outcome and so do the girls!!

When my older son sits with the girls he knows our cell phone numbers, but I’ve recently started writing them down for Sammy so she also can feel a little more secure (or to call and say goodnight if she goes to bed before we return). I finally decided to frame and put them on the magnetic board…it’s much neater and its always in the same place for quick reference.

These are just simple solutions that I came up with that works for the family.  I still have a regular monthly calendar and input things into my cell phone calendar, but this is a fun, neat way for the family to “think” you are the perfect, organized Mom!!……wink-wink!!

"Sammy Cakes Fun! - Painting"Most kids love to draw or paint and their work is wonderful. All the bright colors, fun shapes and “off” perspectives are so fresh and unique, which are true works of art.

There are so many ways to preserve and display those masterpieces today with the digital products available.  With today’s technology you can now have your child’s art printed directly to canvas, posters, or fabrics from various photo center websites or even your local chain pharmacies or in-store photo centers.

The canvas prints are usually available in various price ranges and can be printed in various sizes and most even have a “gallery” option, which means the canvas is wrapped around a wooden stretcher frame and is ready-to-hang. (like you would see in galleries). These are original works of art and in turn helps boost children’s self-esteem when they see their work displayed!

The easiest way to display your child’s work is to simply frame it yourself! Take a black frame, (black makes the artwork “pop”) that is larger than the artwork, find or make a simple mat border that color coordinates or compliments the art (at least a half inch border/mat). You’ll be surprised how nice it turns out.
