On Wednesday, Unity Day, Sammy gathered a few friends to make “No Bully” type posters.  I explained to them about “Bully Prevention Month”  and the kids tied orange yarn around their wrists, which is the official awareness color.

The next day, the posters were hung around their school along with other posters that were made by students from St. Agnes.  William, shown to the far left was one of the younger kids helping out and he was still wearing his yarn bracelet…and he told me, “I’m never taking it off!” I asked it what it meant, and he continued, “It means, say no to Bullies!”

Healthy snacks are sometimes hard to work into backpacks, sack lunches and coolers, but if you package vegetables in a treat bag you have an instant fancy snack!

You can take it one step further and use a crinkle cutter for the vegetables. You can find them in the kitchen utensil section of most stores, I used this crinkle cutter from Pampered Chef to cut up a cucumber. They have a grooved edge and its easy to create fancy vegetables and cheeses with this tool. The treat bags were a clearance item left over from Valentine’s Day, which is perfect for all types of occasions with the red hearts.  (4th of July treat bags are out….I’m sure there will be bags with Stars and I’ll be sure to pick some up for future creative projects, snacks and goodies! )

It’s all in the presentation and don’t these cucumbers look fun to eat!?

"Pig Costume" "Sammy Cakes Fun"

Last night I was in my school’s Spring Concert.  It was a farm theme and everyone was suppose to dress like farmers and barn animals.  I chose to be a Piggy….because they are pink, why not!!  Here’s what we used to come up with the Fabu Piggy costume!! Less than $10 for the complete outfit!

  • A pink skirt – this one from my dress-up box.
  • Pink t-shirt w/ a piece of white felt tacked on (for the belly)
  • Black shoes/socks. Black felt for the hooves on my hands
  • Pig Ears/Nose Mask at U.S. Toy Co. for $5.99
  • Hot pink bandana from U.S. Toy Col for .99
  • A bendy oversized pipe cleaner for the tail

There were so many cute costumes….chicks made from x-long yellow t-shirts with feathers glued on with yellow leggings…cotton balls on a white t-shirt, with black leggings used for a sheep….the creativity went on-and-on.  I loved playing a Piggy and it was fun to see all the different costumes. It just shows how creative everyone can be with a little imagination.

Have fun coming up with your own farm animal.  You don’t need a school play to create your own farm adventure…..oink-oink!!

"Resurrection Eggs Sammy Cakes Fun"These are really neat and are a perfect tool to teach the simplified version of The Story of Easter. (in our family it is a Religious Holiday not just a day for the Easter Bunny to come visit) Resurrection Eggs are a dozen colorful Easter eggs containing simple objects which represent the events of the Easter story from the Bible.

Inside plastic Easter eggs, everyday objects represent the events of Jesus’ death and resurrection. A small stone, for example, signifies the stone rolled across Jesus’ tomb, and a Gospel passage corresponds as each egg is opened and the object is examined. Resurrection eggs can be purchased or homemade. Some objects and their symbols can include: Bread: Jesus broke bread and thus gave up his body for us. Dime or “play” silver coin: Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Thorn or twig: Jesus wore a crown of thorns before going on trial before Pontius Pilate.

We have made this a Easter Family tradition for years, there are different versions out  in the market place, but if you would like to make your own, below is a list of what you will need!
